biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and
first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in
medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious

Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Laboratory & Animal Sciences Program (LASP) provides
exceptional quality animal care and technical support services for
laboratory and animal research performed at the National Cancer
Institute at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.
LASP executes this mission by providing a broad spectrum of
husbandry, veterinary, state-of-the-art technology, and
pre-clinical scientific services. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES This
Senior Principal Scientist organoid position (Major Equipment and
Assay Development) is expected to investigate ways of standardizing
the growth of normal (non-cancerous) human organoids, to utilize
organoids to model and study human disease, and to perform and
publish independent research. Initiates, directs, and executes all
pre-clinical scientific research and/or development strategies.
Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques,
and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Expert knowledge of
scientific principles and concepts. Reputation as emerging leader
in field with sustained performance and accomplishment.
Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of
scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions,
products, and problems. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less
experience; directs the work of other staff members. Exercises
latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical
assignments. Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art
principles and theories. Makes major contributions to scientific
literature and conferences. Implements solutions that require a
long-term view and consideration of multiple perspectives and
future impact. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad
impact on the business. May act as a spokesperson on corporate
research and development and advise top management. May participate
in the development of patent applications. Interfaces with various
departments and serves as an internal consultant. Accountable for
meeting own targets which will impact the discipline BASIC
QUALIFICATIONS To be considered for this position, you must
minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Possession of a PhD degree from an accredited college or university
according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency. In addition
to the education requirement, a minimum of ten (10) years of
progressively responsible experience. Strong evidence of previous
scientific mentoring and laboratory leadership. Must possess basic
Microsoft Office skills. Ability to obtain and maintain a security
clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Candidates with these desired
skills will be given preferential consideration: Has directed the
pre-clinical research efforts of other scientists in organoid or

pay range for this job is a general guideline and not a guarantee

salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time
